A group of aging Bangladeshi farmers play in a colourful cricket match to promote the sport in rural areas ahead of the cricket World Cup. Bangladesh farmers lift World Cup!→ Shishir Hoque Maybe in a few months time it is the result that everybody hopes to see, but for now the farmers of Bangladesh are the world champions after they defeated 'Australia' on Sunday. Bangladesh won the final by 47 runs to clinch the 'Farmers Cricket World Cup' at the Charpuliamari, Shambhuganj, Mymensingh on Sunday. Channel i, the popular satellite channel, organised the tournament to mark the countdown of the real World Cup in the remote area of Mymensingh and it was an instant success. The pitch was laid in a paddy field and the matches took place under lights. Farmers wearing lungis took to the field amid cheers of thousands. It was a unique blend of rural Bangladesh playing its most popular sport far away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city life. The event was enjoyed by everybody who was there.. Bangladesh was bolstered by huge hits of Nurul Amin who scored 80 runs as Bangladesh posted 122-1 batting first and later restricted Australia to 75 to win the title.
